Held at the Watertown Hotel in Seattle, Washington

Meeting of professionals interested in understanding the role of surgical care in improving the health of people in developing countries.
The hoped for outcomes of this meeting were:
1. Working papers that describe the consensus of experts in the filed on the role of surgery in public health.
2. Inspiration for research publications that generate new knowledge
3. Creation of an organization that will support research into the role of surgical care in the developing world and if research shows that access to affordable surgical care is needed the organization will co-ordinate a response.
